The day’s world news is dominated by the widening reach of war and espionage beyond front lines, with civilians, transport hubs and sensitive military sites all exposed. From deadly strikes in Ukraine and Saudi Arabia to security investigations in Britain and diplomatic strain involving North Korean POWs, conflict is spilling into everyday life and state relations.

A Russian strike on two civilian buses in Kramatorsk in eastern Ukraine kills at least 30 people and wounds dozens more. The attack hits near a bus stop in the Donetsk region, and guided munitions are reported to have struck during a broader period in which other civilian sites in the area are also affected.

Houthi attacks on Riyadh deepen concerns about the Yemen conflict reaching Saudi civilian infrastructure. The group says it targets King Khalid International Airport, where damage is reported to airport facilities and at least one passenger aircraft, prompting airlines to suspend flights. In an earlier attack, intercepted missiles send debris onto civilian sites in Riyadh, including a kindergarten and a medical complex.

A suspected Ukrainian drone strike forces Yandex to halt operations at a major data centre in Russia’s Ryazan region after a fire breaks out at the facility. The company takes the site offline while it assesses the damage and works to restore services, underscoring how the war is increasingly affecting critical digital infrastructure inside Russia.

A 24-year-old Royal Navy sailor appears in a London court charged with spying-related offences linked to alleged activity for Russia. Police say Teddy Young is accused under the UK National Security Act of preparing to disclose protected information and of obtaining or retaining such material for the benefit of a foreign power between late 2024 and May 2025.

British counterterrorism police arrest two Latvian men after a security breach at or near RAF Molesworth, a base used by US forces and linked to NATO intelligence work. Reports say the men are found inside the perimeter, prompting a National Security Act investigation and renewed scrutiny of security around sensitive military installations.

South Korea recalls its ambassador to Ukraine after a dispute over two North Korean prisoners of war transferred to Seoul. The row follows President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s public disclosure of the transfer, which South Korea says breaks a confidentiality arrangement and risks exposing the prisoners’ relatives in North Korea to retaliation.

At the trial of Australian broadcaster Alan Jones, a 17-year-old complainant denies that his family sought money from Jones. The court hears evidence about an alleged visit to Jones’s rural property, where the teenager says he was touched. He is the youngest of the complainants giving evidence in the indecent assault case.

A coroner rules that three sisters who were recovered from the sea off Brighton in May died in a suicide pact. Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, were found in the water in the early hours of 13 May after being dropped near the seafront, and post-mortems conclude that all three drowned.
