Tech news today centers on how digital power is being governed and financed. Governments move to tighten rules around platforms and advanced chips, while major companies place bigger bets on AI and software-driven products that will shape the next wave of consumer technology.

Nvidia is in talks to back AI startup Perplexity in a deal that would value the company at more than $30 billion. The discussions focus on a new funding round and underscore how aggressively investors are still pricing prominent AI firms, even as competition intensifies across search, assistants, and enterprise tools.

Taiwanese prosecutors charge nine people over an alleged scheme to smuggle advanced AI servers to China in breach of export controls. The case centers on high-end systems containing Nvidia chips, and prosecutors say eight of the defendants face charges including breach of trust and document forgery.

Tata Consultancy Services and Porsche sign a five-year technology partnership worth €1.25 billion to expand AI across Porsche’s engineering, manufacturing, operations, and customer experience. The agreement also includes MHP-related work and supports Porsche’s broader enterprise transformation and development of software-driven mobility platforms.

New Zealand proposes a social media ban for children under 16, with legislation that would require high-risk platforms to take reasonable steps to verify users’ ages. Companies that fail to keep under-16s off their services could face financial penalties under the government’s planned enforcement regime.

The UK government orders TikTok to remove videos tied to a dangerous wrong-way driving trend, arguing the content poses a threat to public safety. The action comes after a fatal incident in which police officers were killed when a car was driven the wrong way on a road.

CD Projekt Red says it is targeting 2028 for the release of The Witcher 4, giving fans and investors a clearer timeline for one of the industry’s biggest upcoming games. The update signals the studio is planning on a long development runway before the next installment reaches market.
