Europe set the tone in tech today, hitting Google with an €890 million antitrust penalty over two familiar pressure points: favoring its own services in search and limiting how Android developers steer users to payments outside the Play Store. The ruling underscores how aggressively Brussels is now testing its Digital Markets Act against the biggest gatekeepers. Even as regulators tighten the screws, Google is opening a new front on account security, adding a selfie-video recovery option that uses facial verification as a backup when users are locked out. Apple, meanwhile, is pushing deeper into the car dashboard, partnering with Ford to embed Apple Maps directly into the automaker’s next-generation electric vehicle platform rather than relying only on CarPlay. And in streaming, Apple is closing a chapter too, confirming that “The Morning Show,” one of Apple TV+’s signature early dramas, will end with a fifth and final season.
