A mix of political change, military realignment and social backlash drives the day in world news. North Africa marks a milestone with Morocco’s first woman prime minister, while the U.S. exit from Iraq, Taiwan’s security concerns and protests over housing and workplace decisions show how power shifts are playing out on the ground.

U.S. forces complete their withdrawal from Iraq, ending a military presence that has lasted for more than two decades since the 2003 invasion.
