Today’s world news is dominated by state power under strain and in display: governments respond to security threats, assert control over assets, and stage public shows of resolve, while violence and long-running trauma leave a deadly human toll. A major corporate succession at Berkshire Hathaway also marks the end of an era in global business leadership.

Iran stages a massive government-organized rally that draws hundreds of thousands of people, in what is described as the country’s largest such demonstration since the war began. The turnout serves as a prominent display of national solidarity and official defiance after months of fighting, underscoring the leadership’s effort to project resilience at home and abroad.

President Emmanuel Macron orders the French government to draw up plans to better protect critical infrastructure and sensitive defence and technology sites from what he calls an intensifying Russian hybrid threat. The step extends Moscow’s pattern of taking control of Western-owned business assets in Russia, adding to pressure on foreign firms still exposed to the Russian market amid prolonged geopolitical confrontation.

A shooting at Banga National High School in South Cotabato in the southern Philippines leaves at least one person dead and several others injured. Local officials and police confirm casualties as authorities work to establish the full circumstances of the attack and verify additional details from the scene.
