The day’s world news is led by violence and disruption, with a deadly strike in southern Lebanon, new warnings over rights in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan, and transport problems at Heathrow. Elsewhere, public mourning in Britain and a constitutional change in Liechtenstein show how politics, institutions and national identity are also in focus.

An Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon kills seven people and injures three others in the village of Ansar. The strike hits a house on the outskirts of the village during the early hours, adding to continuing cross-border violence and underscoring the fragile security situation along the Israel-Lebanon frontier.

The Taliban marks five years since returning to power in Afghanistan with events at the Loya Jirga hall, presenting its rule as a source of stability after decades of war. The anniversary comes as the United Nations warns that the country remains in a deep rights crisis under Taliban governance.

Heathrow Airport warns that flooding disrupts road access to Terminals 2 and 3, with closures in the central terminal area preventing passengers from reaching those terminals by road. The airport says restrictions remain in place as it deals with the impact on one of Europe’s busiest travel hubs.

Former Cambridge professor Jason Arday dies at his home in south London, prompting tributes from senior British figures. Prime Minister Andy Burnham calls the death a tragedy and urges a moment of reflection, framing the news as a loss that has resonated beyond academic life.

Liechtenstein changes its royal succession rules to allow a woman to inherit the throne in future. The amendment, announced by the princely house, marks a significant constitutional shift for the small European principality by ending the male-only line of succession.

Bonnie Tyler’s coffin is taken through the Mumbles area of Swansea as hundreds of fans line the streets to pay their respects. The procession carries her remains toward her former home ahead of her funeral, turning the route into a public farewell marked by visible mourning.
