The US Supreme Court dominated the international agenda, delivering two major rulings that cut in different directions: justices upheld Idaho and West Virginia laws barring transgender girls from girls’ school sports, a significant setback for transgender rights, while separately rejecting Donald Trump’s effort to curtail birthright citizenship and preserving the long-standing constitutional guarantee for most people born on US soil.
