Tech news is led by the growing costs and stakes of the AI boom, from multibillion-dollar fundraising and new model launches to the hunt for reliable power. At the same time, fresh security incidents show how exposed major platforms and even federal systems remain when access controls or communications break down.

DeepSeek moves toward a Tencent-backed funding round worth at least 80 billion yuan, or about $12 billion, in a deal that would top its original target and rank among the biggest recent AI financings. The raise comes as the company prepares for a planned 2027 initial public offering, underscoring investor appetite for leading AI developers.

Google is close to, or has reached, a long-term deal with Constellation Energy to buy nuclear power under a multiyear arrangement reportedly worth at least about $1 billion. The agreement reflects how large AI and cloud operators are seeking steady, carbon-free electricity supplies as data-center power demand climbs.

The FBI removes an Accenture contractor after a breach exposes sensitive personal data belonging to thousands of bureau employees. An internal review ties the incident to a security lapse on a platform used for FBI operations, making it another high-profile case in which contractor access and system controls become a federal cybersecurity weakness.

Mistral introduces “Le Chonk,” a preview of its multimodal Mistral Large 4 model, with access through the company’s API ahead of an open-weight release later this month. The model uses a mixture-of-experts design and offers two reasoning modes, as Mistral tries to show it can still compete near the front of the AI field.

ASOS customers in the UK receive alarming app notifications claiming the retailer has been hacked and that a Snowflake instance has been fully compromised, with threats to leak data through a posted link. ASOS says the notification is unauthorized, leaving users to sort through confusion over whether the message reflects a real breach.

Informa agrees to buy events organiser Clarion from Blackstone for about £2.24 billion including debt, expanding its scale in business-to-business live events. The transaction would create one of the sector’s largest operators and signals continued consolidation around trade shows and specialist industry events.
