Tech news today centers on how platforms and companies are adjusting to AI, regulation and slower-growth economics. From Apple charging more for streaming and Google tweaking search rules in Europe to fresh pressure over AI voice rights, the sector is balancing expansion with scrutiny and cost control.

Google revises parts of its search spam enforcement in the European Union, changing how it handles "site reputation abuse" and related manual actions. The move comes as the company tries to head off possible antitrust action from EU regulators, who have raised concerns about how Google’s policies affect publishers’ visibility in search results.

Advent International and Stripe abandon their pursuit of PayPal, ending speculation about a takeover that could have ranked among the biggest fintech buyouts on record. The withdrawal sends PayPal shares sharply lower and removes the prospect of a deal that had drawn close attention across payments and private equity.

Apple raises the U.S. price of Apple TV+, lifting the monthly subscription from $12.99 to $14.99 and the annual plan from $99 to $119. The change takes effect immediately for new subscribers and also includes a higher price for the Apple One Individual bundle, extending Apple’s broader run of services price increases.

More than 80 actors and industry figures sign an open letter calling for stronger protections against AI voice cloning. The group says current safeguards do not adequately stop artificial intelligence systems from imitating a real person’s voice, adding to wider pressure on governments and companies to set clearer rules for generative AI.

OpenAI appoints Meta executive Sandhya Devanathan to lead its Southeast Asia and Australia operations, with the role beginning in October. The hire gives OpenAI a senior regional leader in two fast-growing markets and signals the company’s push to build out local leadership as competition in AI intensifies worldwide.

Ireland’s enterprise minister, Peter Burke, warns that the spread of artificial intelligence will bring a period of uncertainty for the economy as companies adapt. He presents AI adoption as a major transition that is likely to create challenges for businesses before its benefits are fully absorbed across the market.

IndiGo Ventures invests in Sarvam as part of the AI company’s Series B round, deepening an existing partnership between the two businesses. The deal is aimed at expanding the use of artificial intelligence across aviation operations, showing how airlines are moving beyond experimentation toward more embedded operational uses of AI.
