Tech news is dominated by the next phase of the AI buildout, as companies push for massive new infrastructure, publish competing visions for how advanced models should be distributed, and face fresh political pressure over how fast the technology is moving. Alongside that, platform gatekeepers and hardware companies make practical shifts in payments, app distribution and aerospace bets.

Nvidia is working with Wall Street firms on a financing package reportedly worth about $500 billion to support AI infrastructure. The effort is aimed at funding the huge expansion of data centers and related systems needed to keep up with demand for AI computing, underscoring how capital-intensive the boom has become.

Mark Zuckerberg publishes a lengthy AI manifesto that argues for wider access to advanced systems and frames AI as a tool for individual empowerment. The essay also sets out Meta’s views on security, oversight and the role of government as more capable models begin to shape the economy and daily life.

Meta also launches Muse Glimmer, a new open-weight AI model designed to run on personal computers, and says it plans to release weights for Muse Spark as well. The move aligns with Zuckerberg’s push for AI that users can run themselves instead of relying only on closed, cloud-hosted services.

Sen. Bernie Sanders calls on OpenAI, Meta and Anthropic to pause AI development and warns Congress may intervene if they refuse. His letter raises the political stakes around the pace of model development and reflects growing pressure in Washington for stronger limits on powerful AI systems.

Boeing agrees to sell three autonomy and eVTOL-related units to Archer Aviation in exchange for an equity stake in the startup. The deal gives Archer control of Wisk Aero, SkyGrid and Insitu, consolidating Boeing’s air-taxi and supporting autonomy assets under a company focused on electric vertical flight.

Google begins allowing third-party app stores inside the US Play Store, with Aptoide becoming the first rival storefront available there. The change follows a court-ordered shift tied to Google’s fight with Epic and marks a notable opening of Android app distribution in the United States.

Google Play adds Venmo as a payment option for US users buying apps, games and subscriptions. Users can link a Venmo account in Play’s payment settings and use it at checkout, giving Android customers another mainstream way to pay inside Google’s app marketplace.

Valve notifies European customers who bought Steam hardware after a cyberattack hits its shipping partner, CEVA Logistics. The breach prompts customer emails from Valve and highlights the supply-chain cybersecurity risks that can expose consumer information even when the attack lands on a contractor rather than the seller itself.
