Money and reach dominate the sports agenda, with governing bodies and broadcasters striking long-term bets even as regulators warn the financial foundations of parts of the game are dangerously weak. On the field, a dramatic NFL finish, discipline and selection pressure show how quickly results reshape the conversation.

English football’s new regulator warns that most clubs across the pyramid are in serious financial trouble. In its State of the Game report, the Independent Football Regulator says 94% of the top 116 clubs are loss-making and more than 60% of clubs in the EFL and National League are technically insolvent, leaving the sport exposed to major financial risk.

Formula 1 agrees a 10-year deal to bring a Grand Prix to Rwanda, setting up the sport’s return to Africa in the early 2030s. The race is planned for a new purpose-built circuit in Bugesera, south of Kigali, in a move that expands F1’s global calendar and gives the continent a place on the schedule again.

Netflix lands the rights to show the 2030 FIFA World Cup in Spain and Andorra, giving the streaming platform its first major role as a World Cup broadcaster. The deal puts one of sport’s biggest events on a major global streaming service and signals another shift in how premium live sports rights are distributed.

Buffalo beats the Rams 37-34 in overtime after Tyler Bass drills a 45-yard field goal with 1:55 left in extra time. Josh Allen leads the decisive push and secures his first career overtime win, capping a prime-time game that swings on late possessions and special teams under pressure.

Rams left tackle Alaric Jackson is suspended after punching Bills linebacker Bradley Chubb following Monday night’s game. The discipline is expected to keep him out for two games, adding to the fallout from Los Angeles’s overtime loss and creating an immediate problem on the offensive line.

The Rams cut kicker Harrison Mevis after a costly night in the overtime loss to Buffalo and move quickly to sign Blake Grupe. Mevis misses multiple field goals, including a blocked attempt in overtime, and his struggles on special teams become a central reason Los Angeles lets him go.

The Dodgers consider benching Shohei Ohtani for NLCS Game 3 as they try to recover from an 0-2 hole against Milwaukee. Ohtani’s postseason form falls well short of expectations, and the possibility of sitting one of the sport’s biggest stars shows the urgency around Los Angeles’s lineup decisions.

Manchester City defend their celebrations after a 3-0 win at Anfield, with manager Enzo Maresca and captain Ruben Dias pushing back on criticism. Both argue the reaction is justified after a major away result, turning the post-match focus from the performance itself to the tone and symbolism of the celebrations.
