Politics today is defined by executive power pushing against institutions, from the press room to gun policy and security strategy. Alongside Donald Trump’s moves in Washington and the Arctic, other developments show how state authority is being used to reshape accountability, military rules and opposition politics.

President Trump says he is barring CNN, MSNBC NOW and Politico from White House access effective immediately, calling them outlets that spread falsehoods. The move escalates his confrontation with major news organizations by restricting their ability to attend presidential events and question administration officials from inside the White House.

Trump says the United States has reached a security agreement with Denmark that gives Washington permanent control over Greenland’s security needs. The arrangement would expand the U.S. military role on the Arctic island and deepen its operational freedom there, placing Greenland more firmly inside America’s strategic defense posture.

The Justice Department says a federal ban on licensed handgun sales to people aged 18 to 20 is unconstitutional and cannot be enforced. The legal opinion marks a major shift in the federal government’s stance on age-based firearms restrictions and could affect how dealers and courts treat the law going forward.

The Pentagon is issuing guidance that would require testosterone testing for most male service members aged 30 and older. The plan applies broadly by age and signals a new health-screening rule inside the armed forces, while formal requirements for other groups are not yet part of the policy.

Malaysia’s King has granted former Prime Minister Najib Razak a conditional pardon that lets him serve the rest of his graft sentence under house arrest. The decision eases the final stage of punishment for a leader convicted in one of the country’s biggest corruption scandals while leaving the sentence itself in place.

Milan Pradhan, the Congress candidate for the Nandigram assembly by-election, has been arrested hours after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee publicly backed him. The timing immediately turns the contest into a political flashpoint, linking an opposition campaign move with swift police action against its candidate.
