U.S. foreign policy drives the day in politics, with Washington shaping security ties in the Gulf while tightening pressure on Palestinian leaders at the UN. Elsewhere, disputes over governance and public institutions—from a major Indian conglomerate to London City Hall and the Kennedy Center—show politics spilling into culture, sport and corporate power.

The State Department approves a potential $24.3 billion sale of up to 48 F-35 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia, moving forward a deal that has been under consideration for years. The notification to Congress marks a major step in deepening U.S.-Saudi defense ties and would rank among the most significant arms sales now before lawmakers.

Donald Trump is expected to meet Gulf leaders on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly to discuss the next phase of the Iran war. The talks focus on what a postwar approach could look like and how Washington and regional partners would handle security and diplomacy after the conflict.

The United States denies Mahmoud Abbas a visa to attend the UN General Assembly for the second year in a row, preventing the Palestinian president from traveling to New York for next week’s meetings. Washington also extends visa restrictions to additional Palestinian Authority and PLO officials, widening the diplomatic pressure.

A governance fight opens at Tata Sons after the board votes to reappoint N. Chandrasekaran as chairman for another five years and Tata Trusts challenges the move as legally invalid. The dispute centers on the company’s articles of association and whether the Trust’s nominee director could effectively block the reappointment.

A federal judge orders the Kennedy Center to give at least 30 days’ notice before making any major physical changes to its building, including demolition. The ruling imposes a procedural check on any significant alteration of the performing arts complex while legal scrutiny over its future continues.

Ireland says it will boycott the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest and will not broadcast the event because of Israel’s participation amid the war in Gaza. RTÉ ties the decision to the continuing loss of civilian life, the humanitarian crisis in the territory, and concerns about access for international journalists.
