Primary results dominate the political day, with Florida reshaping key races and Alaska setting up a closely watched Senate contest with implications beyond state lines. At the same time, questions of competence, corruption and care for veterans keep pressure on political leaders at home and abroad.

Alaska’s Senate primary sends Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan and former Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola to the November general election in a race that could matter for control of the chamber. The result sets up a high-profile contest between a Republican incumbent and a well-known Democratic challenger in one of the cycle’s most competitive statewide matchups.

Angie Nixon wins Florida’s Democratic Senate primary in an upset over Alexander Vindman, a former National Security Council official known nationally from the first Trump impeachment. Nixon, a state representative, now moves on to face Ashley Moody in the general election, giving Democrats a nominee who broke through against a higher-profile rival.

Byron Donalds wins Florida’s Republican gubernatorial primary, giving the Trump-backed congressman the nomination to succeed term-limited Gov. Ron DeSantis. He advances to a general-election contest against Democrat David Jolly, setting up a closely watched race in one of the country’s biggest and most politically consequential states.

Ukrainian anti-corruption agencies are investigating senior officials in President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office, deepening internal political strain during the war. The inquiry follows the firing of a deputy head of the presidential office over corruption allegations, while a dismissed minister adds to the turmoil by calling for wartime elections.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz wins the Democratic primary in Florida’s redrawn 20th Congressional District, overcoming challengers in a heavily Black seat centered in parts of Broward County. Her candidacy draws criticism from several Black opponents, but the result keeps the veteran lawmaker on track in a district that strongly favors Democrats.

Sen. Darline Graham comes under fire after saying during a Republican Senate debate that she is “not that informed on national security.” Pressed on whether Taiwan and the South China Sea are U.S. national security issues, she does not give a direct answer, prompting criticism over her grasp of a core policy area.

Jacqui Lambie uses an emotional speech in parliament to demand that the government scrap a $5,000 cap on allied health spending for veterans. She frames the limit as an urgent barrier to care and presses the prime minister directly, arguing that veterans’ health needs should not be constrained by the current policy.
