Health news today is dominated by extreme heat and new research into serious illness. In South Korea, a record-shattering heatwave has pushed temperatures above 42 degrees Celsius, left Seoul under the highest alert, and caused at least 16 deaths alongside thousands of heat-related illnesses, underscoring the mounting public-health toll of climate extremes. In the U.S., a large study of more than 14,000 ALS cases found that diagnosis risk varies across military branches, with higher rates reported among Air Force, Coast Guard, and Navy veterans, raising fresh questions about occupational exposure and long-term care. Elsewhere, public attention has also turned to loss and accountability: actress Mary Egida Rivera, remembered for her role in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” has died at 82 after a stroke, while in Australia a Brisbane bus driver’s careless-driving conviction over the death of teenager Tia Cameron has been upheld on appeal.
