Entertainment news is led by an Emmy night that mixes record-setting wins with emotional tributes, while Ed Sheeran’s tour becomes a broader industry flashpoint over Macklemore’s removal. The day’s biggest developments show awards season celebrating standout television even as music bookings draw scrutiny over speech, solidarity and fallout on the road.

Apple TV’s “Widow’s Bay” dominates the 2026 Emmys, winning 14 awards and setting the record for most trophies ever collected by a comedy in a single season. The show takes top series honors, while Matthew Rhys, director Hiro Murai and creator Katie Dippold are also recognized in a sweep that spans major creative and performance categories.

Jean Smart wins outstanding lead actress in a comedy for “Hacks,” extending her run to five straight victories for the show’s five seasons. The award gives her an eighth Emmy overall and marks a rare milestone for sustained dominance in one performance category as the series closes out its final season.

Michael J. Fox receives the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award for his advocacy around Parkinson’s disease, drawing a standing ovation at the Emmys. In his acceptance, he speaks openly about living with the diagnosis, turning one of the night’s most personal moments into a recognition of decades of public health and awareness work.

The Emmys also pause to honor Dolly Parton after her death last month, with Sally Field and Reba McEntire leading a tribute from the stage. The segment remembers Parton’s cultural impact and television legacy with emotional remarks and musical performances that become one of the ceremony’s most reflective stretches.

Ed Sheeran’s North American “Loop” tour is reshaped after several opening acts and members of his backing band withdraw following Macklemore’s removal from supporting dates. The departures turn a lineup change into a wider dispute, with artists framing their decisions as support for Macklemore and for Palestinian solidarity.

Ed Sheeran says the decision to drop Macklemore from the tour is made by promoters, not by him personally. His statement comes after backlash tied to Macklemore’s pro-Palestinian remarks during a performance, and it places responsibility for the move on the tour’s organizers as criticism around the decision intensifies.

More artists pull out of Sheeran’s remaining tour dates after Macklemore is removed, expanding the fallout beyond an initial wave of exits. Finneas, Lukas Graham, Beoga and Aaron Rowe are among those stepping away, citing free speech concerns and support for Palestinians as the dispute spreads across the tour lineup.
