President Trump drove the political agenda on multiple fronts Tuesday, deepening both strategic and economic bets. Reports say he has approved a long-term U.S.-Saudi civil nuclear pact that could open the door to Saudi uranium enrichment, a move likely to strengthen ties with Riyadh while reigniting nonproliferation concerns and drawing scrutiny on Capitol Hill. At home, Trump also unveiled a phased tariff plan on imported generic drugs, keeping rates at zero until 2028 before sharply escalating them in an effort to force pharmaceutical manufacturing back to the United States. Abroad, Secretary of State Marco Rubio used a regional summit in Manila to warn that any Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz would be intolerable, arguing the stakes reach far beyond the Gulf. In Arizona, Trump ally Andy Biggs won the Republican gubernatorial nomination, setting up a high-profile challenge to Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs. Meanwhile in France, an emergency pesticide bill triggered the attempted resignation of Environment Minister Monique Barbut.
